how are British magazines globalised? - Third way evangelists presented globalisation as inevitable and advantageous to all. In reality, it is neither, and the liberal order is paying the price
The music video is unconventional in some ways as it doesn't feature separate studio based performance shots and also has no dance sequences. Plus it is quite slow and sad in comparison to most of Beyonce's R&B tracks.
The fast paced editing and hand held camera shots add a sense of danger and action. Makes her seem brave and fearless.
The shots of her firing a gun represent her as skilled and aggressive which again are typically masculine stereotypes.

Bruno mars challenging racial stereotypes because usually back in the 1980's it would be young men of ethnic minorities shining old white mens shoes whereas here they have reversed the roles and made it so the old white men are shoe shinning and Bruno who is of ethnic background is getting hi shoes shined.
Hair salon shinning light on black afro hair which is particularly an underrepresented part of mainstream media. Also that he is a male in a hair salon which shows he's comfortable with his sexuality and masculinity that he can be seen in a hair salon. This video tends to subvert ethnic stereotypes, representing black culture in terms of wealth power, success, fun and friendship. It represents men however in a much more conventional way in terms of gender e.g. cocky, misogynistic, important.
How do they reflect the genre of music/tone/mood?
The way they are dressed shows us they can afford the vibrant expensive clothing giving off a lavish lifestyle which is often linked to good moods and happiness, also the way they are dancing and bouncing around the screen shows us that they are in a good mood because they are smiling while doing these dances and give off the feeling as though they are having a good time.
How do they promote or highlight the star power of Bruno Mars?
He is dressed wearing smart expensive clothes while being positioned centre screen reenforces power, also the colour of his jacket adds to his power showing he is standing out and possible 'one of one' or 'one of a kind' it also contrasts against the grimy background in which they are in a not so well looked after street with all these expensive items and cars dancing through the street almost ignoring everyone else there as he may see himself as above everyone else since he is living this lifestyle.
Why do you think the music video is shot in black and white (monochrome) for Beyoncé 'If i were a boy'?
It it shot in black and white to show the grittiness of the drama in the music video and the black and white colour palette helps portray that more. Also it creates a more serious feel towards the song and things she is talking about within it. Also it removes the idea of it being about race whereas she is trying to portray that she isn't the only one experiencing this and she knows all ethnic backgrounds understand what she is saying within the song. The removal of colour also shows sadness and and darkness which she may have gone through.
Beyoncé would have turned this video black and white because most of her other music videos wold have vibrant bright colours with a dance sequence but in this one she is trying to create a different mood to what usually happens within a Beyoncé music video.

Is there a sense of 'naturalism' created through use of mise en scene and setting? If so how is this created?
In the if i were a boy music video there is a big sense of naturalism because they are trying to make a story and talk about problems within either the artists life or the audiences life.
One way the two music videos differ from each other is the saturation of each of the videos. The bright upbeat colours in uptown funk contrast heavily against the use of a dull monochrome colour palette of the if i were a boy music video, this is done because they both portray very different ideas in the music and want that to be shown through the video.
In if i were a boy a heterosexual relationship is being represented and portraying a heterosexual normal relationship which gives a false image of what everyone is being portrayed as where actually that is not true.
Male masculinity is being represented as if all men are cheaters, liars, distant and not honest people. And it uptown funk that stereotype is being reenforced because of the way they treated to women walking past the screen e.g. not looking at their face and only focussing on their bodies.
In uptown funk women are sexualised and seen as something for the male performers to enjoy looking at as if they are objects, whereas in if i were a boy for the first half we see the women playing the typical 'mans role' but in the second half playing to those stereotypes of the women being disrespected and seen as an object.
uptown funk subverts ethnic stereotypes by certain scenes switching the stereotypical roles of the black men shoe shinning and changing it so the white men are shinning the black mens shoes. And in if i were a boy they are playing to the stereotypes by arresting the black hooded male which in america would stereotypically be the first to be arrested and more commonly arrested.
Bruno Mars is represented as being the alpha male who is rich and stylish, we can see this because of the low angle shots put him on a pedestal and gives him that upper hand/upper class man and we know from the way he dresses that he is rich and stylish because he is seen in expensive swagger clothes. Whereas Beyonce in if i were a boy has almost stepped down from the pedestal of being a very attractive women and playing the role of the average man/women with a normal 9-5 day job.
We are shown that in both music videos to look attractive you have to have a very certain body image which consist of usually slim women who are not the average people making

How does uptown funk's video represent gender?
Uptown funk conforms to gender stereotypes because it is suggesting that men objectify and sexualise women, we know this because of the camera work that is used and the fact that we only ever see torso shots or leg shots of the women as they walk past the screen and that we never once see their faces.
Uptown funk focussing on the women's legs shows sexual objectification of women.
We can conclude from those screenshots that a women being sexually objectified is very common in music videos despite, for example, even in the if i were a boy music video Beyonce trying to portray this idea that women can be like men with the things they do the objectification is still there. Although we can see (not so often) women seen as empowering, strong and confident or just not being sexualised at all but rather the opposite.
