L/O: To apply the theoretical framework to media texts.
What is theoretical framework?
Four major concepts, or ideas, which form the basis of the subject content:
Dora and the lost city of gold.
camera work:
they used multiple wide shots to get a better picture on whats actually happening in that scene. Also alot of close ups were used to show expression.
Soundtrack:
they used comedy (little jokes) in the trailer to make people want to see it. also in parts there are intense moments where they play music to build up the tension.
Editing:
played different exciting clips but stopped them half way through the clip so we dont get to see the full thing
Mise-en-scene:
they put everything in a certain position to make you think different things and it also might play a part later on in the film, for example her backpack played an important role because she got stuck in the bus because her backpack got caught in the door of the bus.

L/O: To understand the concept of ownership and regulation.
Institution
Definition: Who makes what and for whom. the owners companies and people that produce distribute and govern media.
types of media companies disney own:
TV
FILM
PUBLISHING
ANIMATION
MUSIC
It is important to understand who owns the media because if your someone upcoming in the media industry you have to know who your rivalling against to try and beat. On the flip side of things if you're someone in the audience of all of this then you might want to know what kind of audience they are trying to appeal to and that group of people that they are tying to appeal to you might be in. Also what ever we read or watch have opinions that you might not agree with therefor you may not want to read or watch that certain outlet of information.

L/O: to identify how a media text targets a specific audience.
Audience
Mass audience: A very broad range of people.
Niche audience: A much smaller very specific audience.

This appeals to a teenage audience because it has bright colors and shows off some of the best players in the cover making teenage boys intrigued.

This is a print adverts aimed at teenagers because its quirky and unusual also it comes across as funny and that might entice the reader to go and buy what they are trying to sell.

This appeals to adult women audiences because is it bright pink which is usually linked to women stereotypically also it is a rom com and that sort of film i sales targeted towards young adult women.
L/O: To explore the idea of representation in the media.
Representation
Representation means what the media portrays to you what they want you to see and only what they want you to see. For example in film posters nothing is done as an accident its all always done on purpose.

The character at the front is portrayed to look like he is the leader leading his army into battle, he looks incredibly serious in what he's doing. He has two people beside him (to his left) they look as though they are partners in crime because how similar style their outfits are this suggest that they might be related or have similar attributes. The two other people to his left look like they are running at full speed, this could show us that they are really dedicated in what they are doing and want to excel. Then at the back there is an icon that is very hench and it shows that he is angry.
Spider-man far from home trailer analysis
In this movie trailer a lot of close ups are used to emphasise emotion on someones face, for example when spiderman sees a big monster destroying buildings they put the camera right in his face to show us that he was really shocked and confused on what was happening. They also used quite a few long shots to show what was happening in the full scene like the one below, then they do these wide shots when something big tends to be happening and it gives it the full blown effect when you use this camera angle.

This screenshot shows us a lot about the movie. It tells us that the movie is about big battles between good and bad and also tells us that the enemy is very abnormal to what you'd expect.

In this clip of the trailer there is a voice over where spiderman looks back on what he misses most and it gives us an incite on what his emotion is at this current time.
The soundtrack in this trailer is used very effectively to show what they really mean. For example there are a few voice overs in this trailer and the classic build up tense music towards the end of the trailer where they sound gets increasingly louder and louder until a point where it all stops and the movie title shows, the movie trailer being spiderman far from home in this situation.

In this close up it tells us that he is obviously upset with what is happening in the situation and it shies a lighten the negative side of spider mans life because all we ever see is him swinging around and having a cracking time.
In the editing of this trailer it follows very other action movie trailer. At the start it builds up the story and as we get nearer to the end it starts to build up to make it more tense and more action packed, until it leads up to the title. This suggests that there will action and there will be a storyline to follow along the way, this makes people more intrigued to watch the movie and will bring in the most money.

Four major concepts, or ideas, which form the basis of the subject content:
- Media Language
- Media Institutions
- Media Audiences
- Media Representation
Media Language
This covers terms used, how texts are constructed and the messages conveyed. It includes:
- Camerawork (Cinematography)
- Soundtrack
- Mise-en-scene
- Editing
Mies-en-scene includes everything that can be seen in a frame costumes, props, setting, hair and make up, lighting, actor positioning, body language and facial expression.
Editing includes all the POST PRODUCTION work on a moving image transitions, pace and speed of cuts, CGI, green screening, graphics.
Towards the end a lot of cuts happen leading up to the title of the movie because it builds up the tension and then leaves it at a cliff hanger.
In the Joker trailer the soundtrack was used very effectively especially towards the end. The laughs over the clips that were played were very effective because it showed a bit of his personality with clips to also show it too. It built up all of the tension and clips up right towards the end where all the sound stopped and dropped showing the title of the movie. The soundtrack played a big part in this because without it it would have just been a bunch of clips put together but the music helps increase the level of tension.

Good start.
ReplyDeleteWWW - you've identified elements of Media Language used and said why
DIRT - Be more specific about the elements of sound that you are describing. Soundtrack means ALL sound. Are you talking about music, voiceover, sound effects?
Good DIRT work.
ReplyDeleteRepresentation - good notes, try including stereotypes too.
Trailer analysis:
WWW - good analysis
DIRT - be more specific with your examples - choose particular shots or sounds or scenes etc and explain exactly what they suggest/tell us.
