The movie targets families for more money overall, because adults get more money in.
Its for families because it attracts young kids who play with lego, adults who used to play with it when they were kids.

The Lego Movie appeals to young children who play with lego through it being very colorful flashy and the fact that its lego and something a child may play with. It also appeals to parents because its something they may have played with when they were younger and they can also connect with the movie through the character lord business because he is relatable in the sense that parents want the lego to stay together in one place. The advantages of a parent company with each type ownership is they own all of so they get to keep all the profit.

The advantages of a vertical integration is economies of scale, increased differentiation (more features that distinguish it from its competitors), increased market power, and the ability to capture new markets.

The advantages of a horizontal integration is reduce transportation costs if common ownership results in closer geographic proximity. Improve supply chain coordination. Provide more opportunities to differentiate by means of increased control over inputs. Capture upstream or downstream profit margins.

L/O: to evaluate the methods used to market The Lego Movie; to link the methods to the target audience.

1) The best bits

2) Tv adverts are shorter

3) In the mornings before school and at night, all day on weekends especially Saturday

They got real adverts that were on at the time and made them into lego without having to use any money to air them. It was very successful as it did exactly what they wanted to happen, they got the big buzz that they wanted and it got many sales first week making it a very high selling movie. They took over the entire ad break with just lego scenes advertising other companies but also got their advertisement. It creates an interest in social media because people spread the advert because they thought it was well cool and sick. The adverts would want to be involved with the lego movie adverts because it gives them alot more advertisement and spreads to a wider audience range

Trailer

They chose to have their logos made by lego to promote the lego movie at the time.

Equilibrium - The 'normality'. Characters in their day to day lives.  In the lego movie the equilibrium is when everything runs normally and lord everyone lives their normal lives going to their normal jobs.

Disruption - An event occurs to break the normality. In the lego movie the disruption is when lord business has the idea of freezing everyone in the lego movie world and broadcasts that idea along with taco Tuesday

Recognition of disruption - Characters realise something has gone wrong.

Attempt to solve disruption - Characters try to solve the problem.

New equilibrium - Problem is solved. things return to normal or new normal is established.

They need to be shown quickly to keep the attention span of the younger target audience and want them to see the entire video/trailer. And this will increase the sales of the lego movie because young children will see this trailer and ask their parents to go and see it.

Diegetic - sound that characters would hear in the film world

Non Diegetic - sound that only the audience can hear

Inter Title - the text used between shots in a trailer

Color Palette - the range of colors used in a media text

Several close up shots of key characters have been used. Why?

So the audience can determine who is the main characters in the movie.

How is diegetic dialogue used to convey a sense of narrative?

USES & GRAPHICATIONS

PIES:

Personal identity: helps us consider who we are; what idea s and values we identify with.

Information: new information we want to know or take pleasure in knowing

Entertainment: offers distraction from the world

Social Interaction: we find things we can share and discuss with others

The lego movie gives us characters we can identify with E.g. Emmet

The lego movie game can have you hooked for hours and you can live in the lego world while playing.

You can discuss the movie with others bc it was very spoken about at the time

Explain what TWO uses and Gratifications audiences might get from the video game according to the trailer.

Two uses and gratifications that an audience can take from the video game, the first one is Entertainment. There are 90 different characters to choose from giving the audience a wide range of choice on what they want to do within the game. They also show the children sitting down with their friends having fun, and being blown away by how good the game is. This shows us that you can sit down with your mates and have a good time which will make young children want to buy it. A second gratification would be personal identity, TT Fusion have made it so that everyone who's played the game can connect and identify with at least one character in the the Lego movie game

Point: Identify the media language used evidence: describe the element in detail explain: explain why it is used: the effect or message given. (connotations) Link: Link this to appeal for the TA

Specific props are used to convey ideas about the narrative. In the foreground, Emmet is holding a large blue spanner. A spanner has connotations of building, fixing and creating. The large size also suggests that this idea is important. This would appeal to those people in the target audience who value creativity and suggest that the y would have to build or create something in the game.

the Lego movie game was put together in a special way to target their specific target audience, They have put just enough happening to entice young people to want to play. Also it is made up of very bright colours and in your face characters. They have also specifically made the title 3D because young children may find that aspect cool and little things like that make kids want to play the game.

Denotations - building on fire with batman logo. smoke layer beneath his feet

Connotations - full body shot from below suggests that he is mighty and powerful. Also his pose suggests that he has no remorse

Denotations- all the Lego characters. Holding blue spanner. bad guy in the back. all made of Lego. we can also see it is based in a city due to the large building around the area.

Connotations- the chaos in the background shows us that this game is very action packed. we can also see who the main characters are just based on how close they are top the camera on this video game cover.

Monday 1st February

It goes against the stereotype because the women are portrayed as the main characters and are pushed to the front and centred.

The Lego movie has a mix of both female and male representatives that go against stereotypes. Wyldestyle is known to be a badass character but she is also a women, that wears make up and likes the colors blue and pink (we know this because of her hair)

Age is represented in these characters as the older you are, you are seen as much more wise and noble. Whereas in the younger people/ generations for example, Emmet, we see that he is very naïve. And with characters like Wyldestyle we see that she is going against the, young = stupid, naïve and not very intelligible.
